Benny Martinez

If you’re wondering where the name Benny Martinez came from, you’re not alone. He’s been active in the community for more than thirty years. His volunteer activities include serving as an Election Judge in Denver Harbor, Texas, and as a life member of LULAC Council 60. His family was active as well: His father was a member of Woman’s LULAC Council #2 and his grandmother was a teacher. He also served in the Korean War. During the 1950’s, he also worked as a Medic at Fort Hood, Texas. He had seven brothers who also served in the military.

In addition to being a former Houston Public Schools teacher, Benny was an active member of the LULAC Council 21 in Goliad, Texas. He participated in the education committee and held hamburger sales to raise scholarship funds for children who wanted to attend college. He believed that education is the key to success and was dedicated to helping others achieve their goals. Sadly, Mr. Martinez passed away on Dec. 29, 2019 in Olmito, Texas. He was 77 years old when he died at Sunshine Haven Special Care Facility.

Hispanic Community

The Hispanic community of Denver Harbor, Houston, Texas is undergoing revitalization. The area’s Hispanic residents are a vibrant part of the city’s ethnic makeup.
